The Boot
On the
Workbench
Boots
are individually cast from an old ceramic boot mold (made from
an actual vintage leather boot, right foot) and low-fired to
bisque. The finished boots are 13.5 inches high.
Using
patterns and elements from my collection of vintage cowboy boot
designs and photographs, I create a one-of-a-kind boot.
The basic
patterns are first sketched in pencil. Raised designs are handbuilt
using ceramic slip and then painted with many layers of color
and glaze.
During
the painting and glazing stages, the boot appears dull and matte.
The final colors will appear only after firing.
